Gathered
Inspired by Tokyo, Japan
My first experience of Tokyo completely shifted my sense of what a city could be. I found myself surrounded by millions of people, movement, colour and energy — yet somehow, within all that intensity, there was order, respect and a sense of calm.
Gathered grew from that feeling.
The repeating patterns represent the individuality of the people and experiences gathered together, while the flowing wooden form reflects the movement and rhythm I felt travelling through Tokyo.
A piece born from that contradiction I fell in love with — busy yet orderly, individual yet connected, chaotic yet somehow calm.
Gathered is my memory of Tokyo, given shape.
Materials: Timber and over 100 year old Obe hand selected from Japan.
The Japanese Wave Reimagined
The ocean has always been where I feel most alive.
Waves are more than movement to me — they are energy, rhythm and freedom. They shape coastlines, clear the mind, and remind me of the power and beauty that exists in nature.
The Japanese Wave Reimagined began in my imagination, bringing together my love of the ocean with the timeless artistry of Japanese design.
I imagined a wave carrying strength and grace, tradition and modernity, movement and stillness — all coming together in one piece.
The layers, patterns and textures represent the depth beneath every wave, while the Japanese fabric connects the work to another place and culture that continues to influence my creative journey.
Materials: Timber, acrylic and vintage Japanese kimono fabric.
The Past is @ the Center
Sometimes the beauty is already there.
The Past is a simple piece created as a nod to the incredible craftsmanship of the past.
At its center is a section of very old Japanese obi, its intricate pattern, colour and detail reflecting the extraordinary work that went into creating these textiles many years ago.
Rather than compete with it, I wanted the timber frame to be simple — allowing the fabric, its age and its story to speak for itself.
For me, it’s about appreciating something beautifully made in the past and giving it a place in the present.
Materials: Timber, acrylic, vintage Japanese obi and ancient pages of text.
Language @ the center
Before us, there were already stories being told.
At the centre of this piece sits ancient text — a reminder that language has carried stories, knowledge and culture across generations for thousands of years.
Surrounding it is vintage Japanese obi, divided into individual forms but connected through a single design.
For me, Language at the Centre is about the way communication evolves while our need to connect remains the same. Words, symbols, patterns and art all become ways of passing something from one person — and one generation — to another.
The language may change. The need to tell our stories never does.
Materials: Timber, acrylic and vintage Japanese obi.
FLOW BENEATH
.Let it flow. Find beauty above.
Inspired by the idea of letting the water flow under the bridge, Flow Beneath is about choosing where we place our attention.
Life brings challenges, worries and moments we cannot change. Sometimes we need to let them pass beneath us and turn our focus toward the beauty that remains — the people, places and moments that make life worthwhile.
A reminder to let go of what has passed, keep moving forward, and never lose sight of the beautiful things in life.
Materials: Timber, resin and vintage Japanese obi.
